Contact me.

I’m a Milotte Foundation scholar, musician, and the author of the vanishings & other poems and the dictator’s mistress.

As one of the founders of Calypso Editions, I edited Piotr Florcyzyk’s translation of Anna Swir’s Building the Barricades & Other Poems, as well as other initial press titles.  My poetry has appeared in many literary journals and magazines. I’m a mother and a legal marketing professional, currently working for a firm that sues large corporations for wrongdoing. I’m working on three new books: two books of poetry and a book of essays. I’m also heading back into composing music, this time using a computer and exploring poetic soundscapes.

I grew up in Seattle, Washington, and spent my childhood in the lakes, fields, forests, mountains and islands of the Pacific Northwest. I didn’t write then. It was all about exploring. When I was five I started piano lessons because I kept coming home from rides to the grocery store and playing what I had heard on the radio on the piano. I studied and played jazz piano for twenty more years.

In college I studied ecology, philosophy and English, thought about becoming a field biologist, and completed undergraduate work in English literature. After graduating, for reasons that are still a mystery, I started to write. This included reading every book of poetry I could bring home from the Berkeley public library – usually about ten books a week.

About the same time I took a writing workshop at the San Francisco Zen Center. It was an AIDS hospice then and the energy was intense and unmistakable. I remember little about the workshop, but began a Zen meditation practice, which continues today.

I wrote and published poems, edited fiction and poetry for various magazines and journals, went back to school and got a paralegal degree so I wouldn’t go into poverty as a writer.  In my early forties and a single mother I earned an MFA in poetry from Seattle Pacific University .

In 2010 I co-founded Calypso Editions, a virtual, cooperative press that specializes in literature in translation and emerging writers. In 2011 I published my first book of poetry, the vanishings & other poems. In 2012 alice blue books published my chapbook the dictator’s mistress.
